Laundry Service Acquired by Wasserman Media Group — What an Adventure

Almost 15 years from the day that I sold my first agency, Middleberg & Associates, I am delighted to announce that Laundry Service has been sold. I have to be one of the luckiest guys you will ever meet in this business. I have been especially blessed to have worked with some of the smartest and hardest working people in the communications industry. You simply cannot build two agencies from scratch without having great people around you. In particular, I would like to call out my partner, Jason Stein, for his brilliant social media skills and unbelievable patience in helping me understand how this powerful communications tool would transform our world.

On Monday, April 20, we announced that Laundry Service has been acquired by Wasserman Media Group, one of the most significant global sports, entertainment, marketing and management firms in the world. As part of Wasserman, we now have offices around the globe, plus access to many significant brands that are household names. Aside from the acquisition, there will be very few changes at our shop. Jason Stein and I continue in our roles as CEO and Chairman, respectively. Our entire management team remains in place, and everyone is totally committed to making this marriage a huge success.    

Why did we do this deal? Over the past six months, as our brand reputation and business began to grow, we were approached by many organizations. While flattering, it was important to us that we join a firm where there was a clear strategic fit as well as management that understood our business and was committed to our success. In Chairman and CEO Casey Wasserman, we found that person.

Throughout my career, I have always believed in technology as a brand differentiator. We have never feared change and innovation. In fact, we have always embraced it. From the introduction of the Internet in the 1990s to social media today, we have always tried to lead our clients and our industry. Our respective firms share the same vision — the evolution of media and its impact on brands and communication. By joining forces, we position ourselves to continue to provide the most cutting-edge offerings to our clients.

So, here I sit after a nearly 40-year journey. When I think of all the great people I have gotten to know and all of the rewarding experiences I have enjoyed, I can only say….I am one lucky guy.
