The Dark Knight Rises: A Review

I went to see the new Batman movie this past Saturday (7:15pm show, Portchester, NY). I have to admit I was feeling a tad uneasy thanks to the events that unfolded on Friday in Aurora, Colorado. And I bet a lot of other folks were, too. The theater wasn’t as packed as you’d expect for the opening weekend of a much-anticipated blockbuster, and my guess is that the movie and theaters everywhere will be impacted. Hopefully, this will be short term as time heals all wounds. As for me, I was more than a bit annoyed with myself for feeling uneasy, but I’m glad I went.

As for the movie, I rate it an 8 on a scale of 1-10.  It would have been better had they eliminated 2-3 totally unnecessary and amateurishly filmed scenes (like the football stadium). The movie was closer to 2 hours and 45 minutes and didn’t need to be. On a more positive note, Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway delivered spectacular performances, and the special effects definitely lived up to the hype. Oh, and this movie had one of the best openings and closing sequences ever. Yes, it was raw, dark and violent. But it is a comic book on screen, for heaven’s sake. Go with it and you’ll have fun.
